CURRAN LOWER RESERVOIR DAM REMOVAL (CRANSTON, RI)
RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (RIDEM)
The Curran Lower Reservoir Dam site is located off Hope Road in the City of Cranston and impounds water discharged from the Curran Upper Reservoir Dam by way of Clarke Brook. Constructed in 1950 as an earthen gravity dam, the 1,100 foot-long, 12-foot high dam with a spillway length of 75 feet, the dam was classified as high hazard structure in poor condition. Owned by RIDEM, the department used the removal of the dam as an opportunity to reestablish the wetland that existed prior to the construction of this dam.
CDR Maguire, working with RIDEM, helped actualize the Department’s vision to restore an aesthetic natural, vegetated area and a landscape closely matching its surroundings. From concept through project delivery, CDR Maguire performed engineering, investigations, and research to properly prepare complete construction and demolition documents and reconciled design conflicts with construction documents and methods throughout the construction phase.
