This corridor of I-95 in Palm Beach County, FL for the PBIA project is only 1.8 miles long, between Southern Blvd. and Australian Ave. The new four-level I-95 / Palm Beach International Airport Interchange included 14 bridges totaling 5km in length. Eight of the bridges are precast concrete segmental bridges (4.5km), and six bridges (0.5km) use steel plate girders.
The project features included the construction of 14 bridges, facilitating direct access to PBIA, braided ramps eliminating traffic weaves, smooth vertical curves to improve visibility, improved capacity and reduced truck and airport traffic on local arterial roadways.
This $110 Million project was a four-level fully directional interchange that provides access to the Palm Beach International Airport. The project had fourteen bridges totaling, eight of which were precast segmental bridges and six that were steel plate girder bridges. The segmental portion of the project consisted of curved precast segmental concrete box girders constructed via balanced cantilever techniques. The single-cell boxes carried one and two traffic lanes with super elevations as high as ten percent. The spans varied from 114 ft to 236 ft in length and the typical segments were 10 ft long.
