CDR Maguire provided design and construction phase services to replace the existing temporary bridge that had been previously installed as an emergency replacement of the failing existing bridge. Because the only available detour route is essentially impassable during the winter months, the bridge needed to be designed such that it could be replaced in 120 days. Therefore, 53’-6” span prestressed concrete NEXT D beams were used to create the superstructure installed on cast-in-place abutments, shortening the overall construction duration. Temporary pavement was installed so that a single alternating lane of traffic controlled by a temporary signal could cross the bridge while the parapets were completed. Also, as part of this project, the stream banks were restored, and armoring installed to prevent scouring and erosion issues.
